Girvano edges Division I of Hubert ‘Chinna’ Bartley Trophy
The United States-bred Girvano, ridden by Robert Halledeen, and Immeasurable Joy, guided by jockey Wesley Henry, captured Division I and Division II, respectively, of the feature Hubert “Chinna” Bartley Memorial Trophy over seven furlongs at Caymanas Park on Sunday.
Going off at odds of 1-5, Halledeen had to pull out all the stops to get up to win by a head, ahead of the long-time race leader Supremasi, with champion jockey Raddesh Roman in the saddle. Third place went to Mr Senator, ridden by Romario Spencer.
Girvano is conditioned by champion trainer Jason DaCosta.
Immeasurable Joy won at odds of 4-1 by three-quarter of a length in a driving finish ahead of Antarctica, with Shane Richardson. Prince Amaan, with former champion jockey Reyan Lewis in the saddle, finished third in the event.
Zulu Warrior, ridden by Richardson, produced an outstanding performance to win Division I of the co-feature Errol A Subratie Trophy. Going off at odds at 4-5, Zulu Warrior led from gate to wire to win the race by 17 and quarter lengths over the six-furlong event. Zulu Warrior is owned by Evon Brown and trained by Adrian Prince.
Meanwhile, The General, with Phillip Parchment, created a mild upset to win Division II at odds of 10-1.
Roman and Shane Ellis each recorded two victories on the 11-race card. Roman’s wins were aboard Miss Marabella in the third event and Midnight Runner in the fifth race, while Ellis was victorious with I Am Interested in the second race and Provident in the seventh race.
