Glastonbury gives a lot of mainstream promotion, says Black Uhuru’s Duckie Simpson
KINGSTON, Jamaica—Founder and leader of the Grammy-winning reggae band Black Uhuru, Duckie Simpson, says performing at the legendary Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts has its pluses.
Simpson made the assertion in an interview with Observer Online on Monday.
“This is just a festival to me. It was humid and hot, a little bit dusty, but what I enjoy most about it is the fact that this concert gives you a lot of mainstream promotion. You get interviewed by the BBC and other major media outlets,” said Simpson.
The iconic group performed their well-known hits on the West Holts Stage.
Veteran reggae musician Winston Rodney, aka Burning Spear, was the only other Jamaican reggae act on the lineup; he performed on Friday, June 27.
The Glastonbury Festival ran from June 25-29 at Worthy Farm, Pilton, Glastonbury in England. Several major acts performed over the five-day period, including Lorde, Fleetwood Mac, Busta Rhymes, Skepta, Neil Young, Rod Stewart, Oliva Rodrigo, The 1975, Doechii, Charlie XCX, Shabbozey, Nile Rodgers and Chic and Jorja Smith.
