Golf Association names team for Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships
THE Jamaica Golf Association has announced what it considers “a strong team dominated by young players” to the Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships in Barbados from Wednesday to Friday.
The team was selected after the National Amateur Golf trials at the Caymanas Golf Course in St Catherine last week, when Zandre Roye and junior player Mattea Issa topped the male and female categories, respectively.
The six-player male team members are Roye, Aman Dhiman, Camden Purboo, Trey Williams, Oshae Haye, and Ryan Lue. Sean Morris was named as the reserve player.
Lue, 18, is the youngest member of the male team. He was recently crowned the national amateur golf champion. Williams and Dhiman played on the junior team up to last year.
The team boasts experience, with most of the members having represented Jamaica at the senior level at least once before — except for Purboo who is making his debut. Three of the team members are former national golf champions, including Morris. Issa, Emily Mayne and Kingston Burke will try to reclaim the female trophy for Jamaica as well as contribute the overall country trophy.
Issa, 18, is the youngest of the three. All three female players have represented Jamaica at the senior level previously.
