Youthful players dominate Ja team to Caribbean Amateur Golf Championship
The Jamaica Golf Association has announced a strong but youthful team to this year’s Caribbean Amateur Golf Championship. The event is scheduled for the Barbados Golf Course from Wednesday, July 2 to Friday, July 4.
The team was selected after the recent national amateur golf trials at the Caymanas Golf Course in St Catherine where Zandre Roye and junior player Mattea Issa topped the respective male and female categories.
The six-player men’s team to the tournament in Barbados comprises Zandre Roye, Aman Dhiman, Camden Purboo, Trey Williams, Oshae Haye, and Ryan Lue. Sean Morris was named as the reserve player.
Ryan Lue, at 18 years, is the youngest member of the men’s team. He was recently crowned the national amateur golf champion. Trey Williams and Aman Dhiman played on the junior team up to last year.
The team boasts a significant amount of experience with most of the members having represented Jamaica at the senior level at least once before, except for Camden Purboo who is making his debut. Three of the team members are former national golf champions, including reserve player Morris. The other two are Roye and Haye.
Issa, Emily Mayne and Kingston Burke will try to take back the women’s trophy for Jamaica as well as contribute to the overall country trophy count.
The 18-year-old Issa is the youngest of the three. She has been having a good season on the golf course.
Mayne has also been having a good season at university in the United States. All three women players have represented Jamaica at the senior level previously and are expected to give a good account of themselves in Barbados.
