‘Best of both worlds’ at Global Fete
Anticipation mounting for line-up on new Sumfest event
Global Fete, the newest addition to the Reggae Sumfest line-up, is set to explode onto the live entertainment scene on Thursday, July 17, delivering the ultimate fusion of live performances and sound clash intensity.
With selectors Tony Matterhorn and Notorious Sound leading the lyrical battle and performers Moliy, Yung Bredda, and Marcy Chin bringing the heat to the stage, fans can expect a night of unforgettable energy and cultural celebration at Catherine Hall.
Global Fete may be new on the scene, but organisers said it will pack a powerful punch when it brings together two of the most authentic elements of Jamaican culture. In addition to top-notch performances from some of the best local and regional talents, the event will serve up a scintillating sound clash.
“Global Fete is something new, something bold, and something truly electric. Patrons can expect a high-energy celebration of Caribbean culture with a twist. We’re fusing the best elements of a sound clash with the legendary Tony Matterhorn and Notorious Sound… the raw passion, the lyrical fire… with dynamic stage performances from Moliy, Yung Bredda and Marcy Chin, that bring the vibes from across the region and beyond,” said Josef Bogdanovich, CEO, Downsound Entertainment, organisers of Reggae Sumfest.
“It’s not just about competition, it’s about connection, creativity, and culture. Expect a night full of surprises, big energy, and a whole new experience for Sumfest,” he said. “We didn’t want to limit the energy to just a clash, we wanted to elevate it. So we said, why not give patrons the best of both worlds? Clash fans get their intense lyrical warfare, while performance lovers get the full stage experience with music that crosses genres and borders.”
Bogdanovich said, with only weeks to go before the action unfolds, excitement is palpable.
“People are talking, artistes are excited, and the streets are ready. It’s something different, and whenever you bring innovation to the culture respectfully and authentically, the energy builds naturally,” he said, adding that his team has had a lot of support from both local and international acts.
He went on to express his hopes for the nascent event.
“If the fans embrace it the way we expect there’s no question it’ll be a mainstay on the Sumfest calendar. We’re building something that can grow and travel, and this début is just the beginning,” he expressed.
Adding to Bogdanovich’s excitement surrounding the event, Jo-Beth Wood, sponsorship & events officer at Pepsi-Cola Jamaica, said: “We love the format of this show because it is the best of both worlds — real, authentic sound clash energy and live performances that keep the crowd moving… I’m looking forward to seeing how both stages keep the momentum going all night.”
Wood said Pepsi is beyond excited to be a part of the event as it aligns perfectly with its mission as a brand.
“Pepsi is all about music, culture, and creating memorable moments , and this event checks all those boxes. It’s the perfect fit for us and for the fans we serve,” she said.
