Kem continues to shine with impressive win
Kem, the five-year-old chestnut horse bred by Here Comes Ben – Lost Springs, showcased significant improvement with a dominant win in the $1.25-million Midnight Angel Trophy on Saturday, July 5, 2025.
Trained by Paul Swaby and ridden by apprentice Demar Williams, Kem led from the front, effortlessly navigating the field to claim victory by 4 ¾ lengths in the Overnight Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward over 6 ½ furlongs (1,300m).
From the off, Kem asserted his dominance, leading California Gold (Richard Henry), D Head Cornerstone (Shane Richardson), and Perfect Brew (Tyrese Anderson) down the backstretch. As the field approached the half-mile mark (800m), Kem maintained his steady gallop, even when challenged by favourite Major Danger, ridden by Raddesh Roman. Undeterred, Kem continued to move strong on the headline, never giving up his gallop, and ultimately crossing the finish line in 1:21.4.
D Head Cornerstone and Perfect Brew finished second and third, respectively, unable to match Kem’s pace. This impressive win marks Kem’s sixth victory from 26 starts, highlighting his growing potential and consistency.
