Police launch probe after elderly woman found in mummified state
WESTMORELAND, Jamaica–The Savanna-la-Mar police are probing the circumstances that led to the death of an elderly woman who was found in a mummified state at her house in Old Hope district, Little London, Westmoreland, on Sunday.
She has been identified as Viola Destin. Her age and date of birth are, however, to be confirmed.
Reports are that Destin died on Tuesday, December 10, 2023.
However, instead of reporting the death Destin’s death, her live-in caregiver, 54-year-old Gena Robinson, reportedly concealed the body inside a room at the house.
A relative of the deceased summoned the police on Sunday, July 6, after becoming suspicious.
Destin’s decomposed remains were reportedly seen lying on a mattress.
The scene was processed, and the body was removed to the morgue pending a post-mortem.
Robinson is facing charges of failure to report the death of a person, preventing the lawful burial of a corpse and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
