RETRACTION AND APOLOGY TO BPM
On Sunday June 29, 2025 the Sunday Observer published two articles referencing BPM Financial. It has recently been brought to our attention that certain statements made in the articles were untrue and without basis. Jamaica Observer would like to take this opportunity to correct the inaccurate statements as follows:-
Article 1: “Pension fund files $634-m suit against BPM”
Jamaica Observer wishes to clarify that Alkali amended its original claim of $634 Million to a reduced sum of $137 Million.
Article 2: “BPM files suit against 10, claiming $100 Million stolen over a year”
1. The article erroneously referred to one of the Defendants as a former manager, when, in fact, she was a former loans officer at BPM Financial. We also wish to clarify that the other nine (9) Defendants in the lawsuit are not, and have never been employed to BPM Financial.
2. The article erroneously stated that the lawsuit accuses the individuals of fraudulently misappropriating client funds. Jamaica Observer wishes to clarify that the funds alleged to have been misappropriated were not in fact client funds but were internal company funds and that the legal action does not involve any loss of or threat to client funds.
Jamaica Observer hereby retracts the above inaccurate statements and regrets the unfortunate comparison to the SSL matter, having now been satisfied that the two matters are distinct. We apologise to BPM for any inconvenience or embarrassment the publications may have caused.
