Sandals Ochi takes hope to ‘Gaza’ and other St Ann communities
IN a display of community service and partnership, volunteers from Sandals Ochi, Sandals Foundation, along with members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) Community Safety and Security Branch and justices of the peace (JPs) recently made contributions to three underserved communities in St Ann.
The outreach began with a visit to Windsor Basic School where the team donated a much-needed bed, toys, and educational supplies.
Teachers and students were visibly moved by the gesture, with many expressing gratitude for the items that will improve rest and learning.
From there, the team ventured into the heart of Roaring River to a community known as Gaza, where they distributed baby clothing, children’s and adults’ wear, toys, books, female hygiene products, towels, sheets, and other essentials to families.
A similar effort was then extended to a neighbouring community.
“As a company, we believe that social responsibility is not an option but a duty. We are committed to making a real difference in the lives of people, one community at a time. The initiative not only met physical needs but brought a renewed sense of hope and togetherness,” said Sandals Ochi General Manager Carol Bourke.
The donations were well appreciated by Gaza resident Jardine Clarke.
“This has never happened before in our area. The amount and variety of supplies brought were overwhelming. We’re truly grateful,” said Clarke.
“We are happy for the partnership and networking,” said Corporal Johnson Watkis of the JCF.
“We are here to serve and protect, and that includes uplifting the community. This intervention has once again shown that unity, compassion, and action can transform lives and strengthen communities,” added Watkis.
Justice of the Peace Monique Mitchell-Stewartson was among the team visiting each location.
“It was a privilege to walk through the communities with my fellow JPs — Gary Holgate and Lyndsay Isaacs from Sandals Ochi — and see first-hand the impact of kindness. These are moments that truly matter,” said Mitchell-Stewartson.
Residents of all three communities welcomed the support and responded with warmth, appreciation, and gratitude.
