Police dismiss ‘inaccurate’ reports of arrests in Bull Bay explosives seizure
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Superintendent of Police Michael Campbell is dismissing reports circulating in the media that three people have been arrested in connection with the seizure of explosives in Bull Bay, St Thomas, on Monday and that they are linked to gang conflicts.
Noting that the reports are “inaccurate”, Campbell, who is the commanding officer for the St Thomas Division, in a statement on Wednesday, said, “It is said that these explosives are connected to gang conflict. Contrary to what is being circulated in the media. There are no arrests in connection with that seizure.”
“The police were conducting operation activity in the Bull Bay area when the explosives were found under a bridge. I am hearing reports that three persons were arrested and that these explosives were in the possession of persons who have gang conflicts, and they’re stocking up on their arsenal to launch an attack. This has led to widespread misconceptions and will erode trust and confidence. We are concerned about these types of reports that are out there in the media,” he explained.
He further called for such reports to be retracted.
The explosives in reference are 510 sticks of dynamite which were seized by the St Thomas Police Division during an operation on Monday.
