Party King Snow Ice: 14 yrs @ KGN Kitchen
With a goal to visit all 75 booths at the recently held Kingston Kitchen Night Market, and an early start marked by mid-evening highs of 33 degrees Celsius, the. Thursday Food team was feeling thirsty, and decided to stop at the Party King Snow Ice stand. We figured, in the heat of summer, you just can’t beat a good old-fashioned snow cone!
The nostalgic experience immediately transported us to much simpler times and was reminiscent of the good ol’ days as a little kid.
The stand was abuzz with activity and was a clear favourite among children and adults alike. At a table sat a gentleman selling tickets. He identified himself as Lloyd Wolfe.
We ordered two small snowcones (we passed on the popcorn) and struck up a conversation with Wolfe who shared that Party King Snow Ice, a family business operated by his brother Stanley and himself, has been a vendor at Kingston Kingston since its inception in 2011. While counting cash and creating tickets for our purchase, Wolfe detailed how much he enjoys participating each year. When asked about sales, Wolfe said, “This year has been good.”
The colourful treats were prepared on the spot, and we were allowed to choose as many flavours as we liked. Server Andre Dixon said while lime juice and ginger syrup were optional, he highly recommended it for adults.
The result? A kaleidoscope of colours, with the syrup’s naturally sweet flavour creating the perfect balance of fruity goodness with a touch of tanginess thanks to the ginger and lime. The perfect way to cool down, one delicious icy spoonful at a time!
Upcoming Party King Snow Ice stops include the Portland Jerk Festival, Funfest, and Grand Gala.
