Teacher charged with obtaining money by false pretence
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Kimberly Bailey-Allen, a 32-year-old teacher from St James, has been charged with obtaining money by false pretence in connection with a scheme that allegedly involved a teenage student and millions of dollars stolen from a family business.
According to reports from the St Ann’s Bay police, Bailey-Allen had entered into an agreement to tutor a teenage girl for a fee of $15,000 per week. However, investigators say the arrangement took a criminal turn when Bailey-Allen allegedly instructed the teen to steal $4 million from her parents’ business to secure a spot for three CSEC CXC examinations.
Reports are that the teen handed over the money to Bailey-Allen in installments between April and July 3 of this year. The incident came to light after the teen’s parents noticed the missing funds and questioned their daughter, who then disclosed what had transpired.
Following an investigation, Bailey-Allen was taken into custody on April 5, and was charged on Thursday.
She is expected to appear before the St Ann’s Bay Parish Court on Friday, September 19.
