Two men slapped with drug-related charges in separate incidents
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Two men have been charged with multiple drug-related offences in relation to separate investigations by detectives from the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID).
In the first incident, police intercepted two vehicles along the Port Morant main road in St Thomas on Friday, July 4 and found over 1,400 pounds of compressed ganja, which has an estimated street value of $4.4 million, and more than $150,000 in cash during a search of one of the vehicles.
As a result, the driver, 39-year-old Brenton Ledgister of Longwood, St Elizabeth, was arrested and charged with possession of ganja, dealing in ganja, trafficking ganja, conspiracy to traffic ganja, and possession of criminal property.
The other vehicle was searched but no illegal substances were found, the police said.
Meanwhile, the police have also apprehended and charged a man who has been evading authorities for over a year in relation to cocaine which was found in a Honda CR-V he reportedly abandoned after police intercepted it during an operation in Middle Quarters, St Elizabeth on June 19, 2024.
Charged in connection with the seizure of 4.4 pounds (two kilograms) of cocaine with an estimated street value of $1 million is 48-year-old George McKenzie of Airy Place, Kingston 19.
McKenzie is charged with dealing in cocaine, trafficking cocaine and conspiracy to traffic cocaine. He was charged on Wednesday, July 9, 2025.
The court dates for both men are being finalised.
