Dovey Magnum eyes wide audience with Rescue Me
Shock value has defined much of Dovey Magnum’s career. Her racy songs have earned her a hard-core dancehall following. The artiste stays true to form on Rescue Me, her latest single.
With eyes on cracking into the mainstream, the Atlanta-based artiste has recorded two radio-friendly versions of the song, which hears her longing for an overseas lover.
“There’s actually two mass-appropriate versions of the single already done. One that’s suitable for the world at large and another just for traditional Jamaican airwaves, which we all know is much more strict,” she said.
Co-produced by Sart Out Records and Romieikon,
Rescue Me was released specifically for summer, a period when artistes and producers hunt that big hit song.
The Spanish Town-raised Dovey Magnum, whose singles include Bawl Out and Sex is Lovely, is determined to branch out with the uptempo track.
“We are looking at all markets, all music enthusiasts, or listeners of music, whichever term is suitable for all ears available. With Rescue Me I am catering primarily to my fans who are more willing to indulge in the music and the lyrics,” she said. “Nothing I’m singing about is alien to us. Just a bit more colourful.”
