Tapper, Scott deliver personal best efforts at Monaco Diamond League
IN form Jamaica champion Megan Tapper delivered a performance to remember on Friday, securing her first-ever Diamond League victory with a commanding run in the women’s 100m hurdles at the meet in Monaco.
Tapper, the Olympic Games bronze medallist from Tokyo, Japan, in 2021, equalled her personal best of 12.34 to dominate a high-quality field and underline her sensational form this season.
Switzerland’s Ditaji Kambundji, the world indoor silver medallist, was a distant second in 12.43, while Dutch hurdler Nadine Visser took third in 12.56.
Olympic champion Masai Russell, who is still regaining full fitness after an injury, finished fourth in 12.57.
Tapper’s performance not only confirmed her status as Jamaica’s top women’s sprint hurdler this season, but also signalled her intent ahead of the World Championships in Tokyo in September.
Her winning time, which matches the mark she ran to claim the national title in June, proves that effort was no fluke and she is now firmly in the conversation as a medal contender on the global stage.
In the men’s triple jump, national champion Jordan Scott also delivered the performances of his life to claim victory in the event, continuing his outstanding form this season.
Scott unleashed a personal best of 17.44m in the fifth round before stretching even farther in the final round with a massive leap of 17.52m — the longest outdoor jump in the world so far this year. Algeria’s Yasser Triki finished second with a best mark of 17.23m.
Nickisha Pryce, the reigning national 400m champion, clocked 49.63 to finish third in the event. The race was won by Olympic champion Marileidy Paulino who had to call upon all of her strength in the home straight to stave off the challenge of Aaliyah Butler. Paulino won the event in 49.06 while Butler was rewarded with a personal best time of 49.09.
