Navasky Anderson qualifies for Tokyo
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Navasky Anderson secured his place on the Jamaican team to the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan in September after breaking the national record a second time in just over a month to win the men’s 800m in 1:44.40 seconds.
He was competing at the Sound Running Sunset Tour event held at the Jack Kemp Stadium in Los Angeles on Saturday night.
Anderson, who was second at last month’s JAAA National Championships at the national stadium, broke the 1:44.61 seconds he set in June and was under the World Championships qualifying mark of 1:44.50 seconds.
He was breaking the national record for a fourth time since 2022 when he ran 1:45.02 seconds for second in the NCAA Division One outdoor championships at Hayward Field, Eugene, Oregon while representing Mississippi State University.
On Saturday, Abe Alvarado was second with 1:44.47 seconds and Matti Erickson of the University of Oregon was third in a personal best 1:44.49 seconds.
