Wall Street Trader stuns Legacy Isle in Hall-of-Fame Stakes feature
IN a thrilling turn of events Wall Street Trader, an American-bred runner conditioned by Rowan Mathie, pulled off a remarkable upset in the $1.75-million Thoroughbred Racing Hall-of-Fame Stakes Trophy at Caymanas Park on Saturday.
Sent off at 16-1 odds, Wall Street Trader defied expectations and delivered an electrifying performance, surging ahead in the deep stretch to defeat the favoured Legacy Isle (Raddesh Roman) by three-quarters of a length. With apprentice rider Ramon Nepare in the saddle, Wall Street Trader carried a light load of 103lb and showcased exceptional skill and strategy. Wall Street Trader sat off the early pace before making a decisive move to be in fourth position approaching the distance. The crowd was left in awe as Wall Street Trader hit top stride in the final half-furlong (100m), crossing the finishing line with a winning time of 1:13.2 for the six-furlong race (1,200m).
Legacy Isle, the 1-2 favourite, was expected to dominate the field but Wall Street Trader had other plans. Despite Legacy Isle carrying top weight of 126lb, the bay horse hit front at the top of the straight and was expected to hold it through the line. But Wall Street Trader proved to be the better horse on this day. Pack Plays (Shane Richardson) came home in third place.
Romario Spencer registered wins aboard Mr Sensator in the third race for trainer Anthony Nunes, and Matuso in the ninth race for trainer Howard McLeod.
Racing continues today with a nine-race card. The first post is at 12:15 pm.
