Bob Marley’s Survival mines gold
Survival, an album released by Bob Marley and the Wailers in 1979 via Island Records/Tuff Gong, was last Friday certified gold in the United Kingdom.
The certification issued by the British Phonographic Industry, commemorates sales and streaming equivalent of 100,000 units.
Survival, with an outwardly militant theme, features the songs So Much Trouble in the World (#56 on the UK Singles chart in 1979, and later certified gold in New Zealand), Africa Unite, One Drop, Ambush in the Night, Wake Up and Live, and Ride Natty Ride.
The album features a wide array of musicians including Lee Jaff (harmonica), Ronald ‘Nambo’ Robinson (trombone), Earl ‘Chinna’ Smith (rhythm guitar and percussion), Carlton ‘Santa’ Davis, Junior Marvin and Carlton Barrett among others.
Upon its release in 1979, Survival made its presence felt on multiple charts. They include the Billboard 200 albums chart where it peaked at #70, #32 on Billboard’s Top R&B Albums chart, #20 on the UK Albums, #14 in New Zealand, #17 in Sweden, #10 in Norway and #32 in Australia.
The album was previously certified gold in Canada and France and platinum in Spain.
