Jingle to the bank
The Jingle app, a multi-faceted platform aimed at individuals in the entertainment/lifestyle industries, was launched at the Courtleigh Hotel in New Kingston on July 1.
It is the brainchild of Vladimir Emmerig of Amsterdam in The Netherlands.
In an interview with the Jamaica Observer, the 49-year-old Emmerig said logistics determined where he should introduce his latest initiative.
“Jamaica is all about music, and there’s a lot of international traffic coming into Jamaica’s telecoms market. Put those two things together and you’ve got a perfect product,” he said.
Once joined, creatives are assigned an app that displays their merchandise, concert dates, tickets, videos, discography, and an opportunity for fans to connect with them.
Artistes also earn revenue from incoming and outgoing international calls to the app.
Emmerig’s company earns from a percentage of incoming international calls.
“It’s a great thing for artistes, creatives, public figures, anyone with a fan base. The good thing for the artiste is to get as many downloads for their app, because the more dollars they make, the more they earn,” he explained.
Two artistes — Sanity Dsane1 and Quan-Dajai — signed up for Jingle at the Courtleigh event. Both expressed enthusiasm for the fledgling venture which they agree gives them more opportunities to earn and connect with fans.
“It’s really a no-brainer, because this will benefit us as artistes financially. Fans can purchase merchandise, see concert dates, notifications and communicate with us,” said Quan-Dajai, who played a young Bob Marley in the movie Bob Marley: One Love.
The function attracted an enthusiastic mix of creatives including Dusty Miller, drummer for The Firehouse Crew; musician/show promoter Brian “Bryan Art” Grant; actress Deon Silvera; and artiste manager Bridgett Anderson.
