Starc rips through hapless Windies to push host to brink of defeat
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc ripped through the West Indies top-order to leave the visitors on the brink of a lop-sided victory in the third Test at Sabina Park on Monday.
At the tea break on the third day of the historic day/night Test the hapless hosts were teetering on 22-6, chasing what quickly turned into a virtually impossible 204 runs for victory.
The 35-year-old Starc, swinging and seaming the ball both ways, has remarkable figures of five wickets for six runs from five overs.
Juston Greaves, on 10, and Alzarri Joseph, yet to get off the mark, are the not out batsmen.
Starc, playing his 100th Test, reached 400 career wickets during his stunning spell.
He claimed the wicket of opening batsman John Campbell with the first ball of the innings, and was on a hat-trick after taking the wickets of Kevlon Anderson (0) and Brandon King (0) to end that same over.
In Starc’s next over, opener Mikyle Louis (four) survived the hat-trick ball before he was later dismissed.
Josh Hazlewood has taken the other wicket to fall.
Earlier, Australia resumed from their overnight score of 99-6 and lost the four remaining wickets for 22 runs.
Top-scorer Cameron Green (42) was dismissed off the first ball of the day when he left alone a delivery from Shamar Joseph and was bowled.
His overnight partner Pat Cummins went for five, followed by Scott Boland (one) and Josh Hazlewood (four).
Alzarri Joseph finished with career-best figures of 5-27.
