Frazsiers Whip winning streak broken
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Defending champions Frazsiers Whip FC’s perfect winning record was snapped on Saturday as they rallied late to earn a 1-1 draw against Arnett Gardens in their Jamaica Women’s Premier League return round game played at Charlie Smith High School.
Frazsiers Whip had won their previous 18 games and had wrapped up the top spot heading into the semi-finals, but struggled on Saturday to beat third-placed Arnett Gardens, despite dominating the game and creating more scoring chances.
At Charlie Smith High, Arnett Gardens took the lead in the 75th minute when Tatyana Black headed a free kick from the left wing past the Frazsiers Whip goalkeeper.
The champions would level the scores deep into time added on when Shaneil Buckley curled a free kick from an acute angle into the far corner of the goal.
Cavalier SC confirmed second place and will avoid Frazsiers Whip FC in the semi-finals after trouncing Real MoBay AFC 8-0 at Alpha Boys Home to move to 50 points, five behind the leaders.
Deshana Cole scored four goals to lead Cavalier SC past Real MoBay AFC, Brittany McGrath got a late double, while Shadie Shirley and Oniella Perkins also got on the score sheet.
Arnett Gardens, on 42 points, and Los Perfectos, who were idle on Saturday, on 39 points, are also through to the semi-finals.
Chris-Ann Chambers scored her first double of the season to lead UWI Women FC’s to a 4-1 win over Federal United, snapping a nine-game losing skid.
UWI Women FC’s previous win had come in early May when they had beaten Federal United.
Ashley Cunningham and Dejana Lewis also scored for UWI Women while Nicolette Spencer had a late consolation for Federal United.
Proven Girls SC beat Springers United 2-0 with goals from Lesha Reid and Julicia Pinnock, while Mile Gully and WiFi United played out a 0-0 draw.
