Jordan Scott confident after PB
Having delivered a personal best performance at the Monaco Diamond League on Friday, national triple jump champion Jordan Scott says he is setting his sights on even greater distances this season.
Buoyed by the milestone effort, Scott says he is just beginning to tap into his full potential and is confident that bigger marks are on the horizon.
“I definitely think there are bigger jumps to come,” said Scott in an interview with the Jamaica Observer. “We have a meet in Europe before I go to the NACAC Championships and then I will have a month off after the meet on the 19th of this month.
“That will give me time to get in a good cycle of training and to fine-tune all the things that we had a problem with. From there on out, with God’s will, we will go further.”
Scott twice broke his personal best during the competition, first leaping 17.44m in the fifth round, before delivering a monster 17.52m on his final attempt, his farthest outdoor jump in the world so far this year. The mark places him second in the world rankings behind Italy’s Andy Hernandez (19.80m). Algeria’s Yasser Triki finished second with 17.23m in Monaco.
This is Scott’s fourth Diamond League win this season.
“I am feeling pretty good about this performance,” he said. “But it was a pretty tricky travelling situation getting into Monaco. Unfortunately, I got there a little later than we wanted to, but I think I made the most of the situation.”
Despite the challenges, Scott said he was not surprised by the result.
“I knew that I had a jump of that calibre in me,” he said. “Like I said, just travelling to Monaco was tricky, we got in very late, and everything was a little bit off compared to what we are used to, so it took a little bit of adjusting to be able to go out there and compete.
I got off to a very slow start compared to where we would have wanted it to be, but we take it when we can, so I can’t complain.”
