JLP senator says record low 3.3% unemployment affirms good governance
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) Senator Marlon Morgan has praised the country’s new record-low unemployment rate of 3.3 per cent as clear evidence of the Holness administration’s effective governance and sound economic leadership.
Citing the latest report from the Statistical Institute of Jamaica, Senator Morgan highlighted that the drop in unemployment alongside rising business and consumer confidence shows the country is on a positive trajectory.
“The 3.3 per cent unemployment rate, combined with growing confidence in both the business sector and among consumers, is the clearest sign yet that Jamaica is moving in the right direction,” he said. “No previous Government in Jamaica’s history can match the achievements of this Andrew Holness-led administration. Our record speaks for itself and is the foundation of our campaign for a third term.”
Senator Morgan also pointed to the Government’s efforts to address long-standing national challenges, including crime, while boosting job creation and workforce development.
“It is not surprising therefore that along with management of the country’s finances, more Jamaicans are now starting or expanding businesses which are creating jobs for the Jamaican people. The efforts of the Government are focused extensively on increasing the training and certification of Jamaican workers to take up the jobs that are increasingly becoming available,” he noted.
The senator further noted that this new milestone comes amid signs of recovery following the economic impact of Hurricane Beryl.
“It is really readily understood that business and consumer confidence signal how people feel about the economy and their outlook on the future, and as such, the increase in these indicators constitutes a strong vote of confidence in the Government going into the general election which is due not long from now,” he added.
