ITA service hubs closing early Friday for digital transition
The Island Traffic Authority (ITA) on Thursday advising the public that all 15 service hubs across the island will close at 2:00 pm on Friday, July 18, 2025 to facilitate critical data migration efforts ahead of the launch of the new Digital Certificate of Fitness regime.
The transition, which takes effect on Monday, July 21, 2025 “marks a significant step in modernising the ITA’s services and streamlining motor vehicle fitness certification through enhanced digital systems”, the authority said in a news release.
“We encourage customers to plan their visits accordingly and complete any urgent transactions before the early closure time. Our corporate office at 145 Maxfield Avenue, Kingston, will remain open until 4:00 pm. Regular operating hours at the service hubs will resume on Monday, July 21, 2025 at 8:30 am with the new digital system officially in place,” the ITA said.
On Monday, ITA Director General Colonel Daniel Pryce encouraged the public to support the transition, noting that while minor challenges may arise, the change represents meaningful progress.
“We’d love to say to the Jamaican public, ‘Don’t get too worried about this change. Let us embrace this change. There will be little nigglings and teething pains, but if we work together we’re going to be able to sort this out and we’ll have a smooth sailing after some time. So if there is a problem, put that in the system so that we can know; and don’t get too uptight, don’t get too irate. Let’s just work together on this one,’” he said during a webinar hosted by Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) and the ITA.
He explained that the digital transition is aimed at improving efficiency, reducing wait times, and providing better service to motorists.
He used the opportunity to detail a series of steps motorists will need to follow in order to access their digital certificate of fitness.
“You must issue a proof of payment. Customers must present a valid receipt, issued by Tax Administration Jamaica, prior to your vehicle undergoing the inspection. You will also be required to submit to us an active e-mail address — which must be clearly written on the inspection receipt — which will be issued to you at the service hub. This receipt must be then handed to the motor vehicle examiner during the inspection process,” he explained.
