Wall Street Trader takes Hall-of-Fame Stakes Trophy in style
Wall Street Trader pulled off a stunning upset in the $1.75-million Thoroughbred Racing Hall-of-Fame Stakes Trophy on July 12, 2025. Despite the 16-1 odds, trainer Rowan Mathie was optimistic, believing the handicap favoured his horse.
Carrying a light load of 103lb, Wall Street Trader delivered a thrilling performance, surging ahead in the stretch to defeat favoured
Legacy Isle, who carried 126lb and was ridden by Raddesh Roman, by three-quarters of a length.
Mathie’s confidence in the handicap conditions seemed justified as Wall Street Trader defied expectations to take the win.
“The feeling is always good when you win races,” Mathie told the Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide.
“The performance by Wall Street Trader was very good. The field was a crop of good horses and Wall Street Trader pulled off the win and so that was very good and he was perfectly ridden as well. I am not sure where he will run next but I will just take it one step at a time,” he added.
With apprentice rider Ramon Nepare in the saddle, Wall Street Trader sat off the early pace before making a decisive move to be in fourth position approaching the distance. The crowd was left in awe as Wall Street Trader hit top stride in the final half-furlong (100m), crossing the finishing line with a winning time of 1:13.2 for the six-furlong race (1,200m). Pack Plays (Shane Richardson) came home in third place.
