Astronomer CEO resigns after viral Coldplay kiss-cam moment
Technology firm Astronomer says its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Andy Byron has tendered his resignation after he and the company’s head of human resources (HR) were seemingly caught having an affair at a recent Coldplay concert at Boston’s Gillette Stadium.
The company said Co-founder and Chief Product Officer Pete DeJoy will continue to serve as interim CEO as they search for a candidate to fill the position.
“As stated previously, Astronomer is committed to the values and culture that have guided us since our founding. Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability, and recently, that standard was not met. Andy Byron has tendered his resignation, and the board of directors has accepted. The board will begin a search for our next chief executive,” Astronomer said in a statement on LinkedIn on Saturday.
The tech firm, which has become the centre of attention following the viral incident involving its CEO, said: “Before this week, we were known as a pioneer in the DataOps space, helping data teams power everything from modern analytics to production AI (artificial intelligence). While awareness of our company may have changed overnight, our product and our work for our customers have not. We’re continuing to do what we do best: helping our customers with their toughest data and AI problems.”
According to international media reports, Coldplay singer Chris Martin was scanning the audience with the band’s “kiss cam” when it landed on the pair — Andy Byron, CEO of the US$1.3 billion tech firm, and his HR chief Kristin Cabot — who were hugging and swaying to the music.
Upon being spotted they immediately split apart with Cabot turning her back to the camera and covering her face while Byron went down on his knees to crouch out of the frame.
Neither Byron nor Cabot have commented on the incident, according to the reports.
