JUTC makes U-turn, restores routes
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Just hours after announcing a decision to pull its buses from the 30, 32 and 47 routes due to recurring stoning incidents along Washington Boulevard, the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) says it has resumed full services along the routes.
The reversal of the Friday decision was confirmed in a comment under a Jamaica Observer Instagram post Saturday morning where JUTC said, “All routes have resumed as management remains steadfast in its commitment to the safety and well-being of its commuters and staff.”
The statement marked a sharp pivot from the company’s original announcement made late Friday on X (formerly Twitter), which declared, “Effective July 18, 2025, routes 30, 32 and 47 have been discontinued due to recurring stoning incidents on Washington Boulevard. These attacks have caused six damaged buses and six accidents. We urge the public to stop and report incidents at 876-570-1789.”
The post has since been deleted.

Three buses were reportedly stoned Friday night along Washington Boulevard, while another was reportedly stoned in Rockfort.
It is understood that the management of JUTC has notified the Commissioner of Police, Dr Kevin Blake following the incidents and police officers have since been deployed along those corridors.
