Reggae Sumfest 2025: Govana surprises mom with new CR-V
Dancehall star Govana surprised his mother, Sonia Eccleston, with a Honda CR-V during his set at Reggae Sumfest being held at Catherine Hall.
The entertainer has never shied away from hailing his mother for raising him with limited resources in the rough community of Spanish Town, St Catherine, but Saturday morning’s surprise was something that brought her to tears.
He invited her on stage to witness the roaring sea of patrons whom he had instructed to turn on their cellular phone lights as he performed Champ. The moment moved her to the first half of tears as he reminisced on how he was predicted to become a “kruff” by naysayers.
Eccleston countered by saying, “mi raise yuh good!” as they embraced each other. Just when she thought the sentimental moment was over, her attention was turned to the big screen as Govana pulled up a graphic bearing the words, “never failed the mission mommy”.
He then revealed she asked for her dream car a year ago. As she read the words on the screen, he handed her keys to her new vehicle.
“Yuh tell mi seh yuh want a CR-V, mummy. Hol’ on pon yuh key. When yuh reach back ah town, yah go drive out yuh van,” Govi said as he patted kisses on his weeping mother’s cheeks.
“Yah higgler. From nothing to something we a come from me mother. Love you like life,” he said.
In the meantime, Govana stepped out donning a white pilot ensemble significance of peace and happiness and being “fly.”
