Rideallday set to make it three in a row
THE electrifying, American-bred, grey/roan colt Rideallday is ready to strike again. The talented three-year-old is on a mission, seeking his third-consecutive win in this afternoon’s $1.25-million Bigman In Town Trophy, the main attraction on a 10-race card at Caymanas Park.
Rideallday has been absolutely dominant this season, romping to victories in both of his starts. His previous wins were nothing short of breathtaking — a 7¼-length triumph over five and a half furlongs (1,100m) in 1:07.2, followed by a nine-length annihilation of the competition over seven and a half furlongs in 1:33.0. On both occasions he was ridden by Ian Spence.
With racing conditions perfectly suited to his blistering running style, Rideallday is poised to deliver another thrilling performance. He has worked brilliantly coming into this race having done 1:07.3 for five and a half furlongs, with five furlongs (1,000m) coming in 1:00.4 on Sunday, July 13.
With his impressive performances Rideallday, trained by Philip Feanny, is clearly on the fast track to the top grade. The Bigman In Town Trophy race seems like a stepping stone on his journey to greatness, a chance to underline his reputation as a formidable competitor. Ian Spence remains in the saddle.
The Overnight Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward over one mile (1,600m) is positioned as the final event on the day with a post time of 6:00 pm. First race, the $730,000 Al Gopie Memorial Cup, is set to go off at high noon.
While Rideallday is the clear favorite, a misstep from the Philip Feanny trainee could open the door for Jason DaCosta’s talented duo,
Girvano and Mamma Mia. These two contenders are certainly capable of seizing the opportunity and claiming top honours.
Girvano, the talented, three-year-old, American-bred bay colt, is eyeing Rideallday’s spot at the top. With three outings at this level under his belt, including a recent win on June 29,
Girvano has shown he can compete. However, to take down the favourite he’ll need to significantly improve on previous efforts.
Despite the challenge, Girvano’s pedigree and form suggest he’s up to the task. Unbeaten in the top three in eight starts locally, he’s demonstrated consistency and class. His recent gallop at exercise on July 12, when he effortlessly beat stablemate Funcaandun by two lengths over six furlongs, has certainly boosted his chances. Girvano clocked 1:14.2 while Funcaandun pulled up in 1:14.4.
Mamma Mia, on the other hand, is stepping down in class for this race. She has competed in the higher class in her last five starts and has done fairly well without actually winning.
Mamma Mia last competed at the Overnight Allowance on February 8 of this year over seven furlongs when she won in a time of 1:26.1. If she is not interfered with on the lead then
Mamma Mia will surely have a look in here.
Mamma Mia’s switch to a lower class could be a masterstroke, potentially giving her a chance in this race. After competing in higher-class events without quite breaking through, she’s shown promise without quite grasping victory. However, her win over seven furlongs at the Overnight Allowance level on February 8 demonstrates her ability to perform at this level.
