Seville defeats Lyles to win first Diamond League 100m race
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Oblique Seville won his first Diamond League race as he stunned a quality field in the men’s 100m at Saturday’s London Diamond League meeting, running 9.86 seconds (-0.6m/s) at the Olympic Stadium.
Seville, who had promised a good run on Friday, posting on social media while getting lined up at the barber shop, “dem dead, dem dead”, delivered in style.
Leading from the start, Seville ran away from the field, saluting the crowd before he got to the line, beating American Olympic Champion Noah Lyles who ran 10.00 seconds in his first 100m of the season with Zharnel Hughes of Great Britain third with 10.02 seconds.
Ackeem Blake, who it was reported would not line up, was fourth in 10.08 seconds.
