Alana Reid, Odaine McPherson win 100m races in Portugal
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Alana Reid and Odaine McPherson were winners of the women’s and men’s 100m finals, respectively, at Saturday’s staging of the Meeting Maia Cidade do Desporto at Estadio Jose Vieira de Carvalho in Portugal.
Reid ran 11.29 seconds (-1.1m/s) in the women’s 100m final while compatriot Krystal Sloley was third in 11.55 seconds, the same time she ran in the qualifying heats.
Reid had run 11.34 seconds (-0.2m/s) in the first round to lead all qualifiers.
Meanwhile, McPherson clocked 10.18 seconds (-0.5m/s) to win the men’s final ahead of Cuba’s Reynier Mena’s 10.27 seconds and Nigeria’s Udodi Chudi Onwuzurike, who was also timed in 10.27 seconds.
Dominic Williams finished seventh in the final in 10.38 seconds and Michael Campbell was eighth with 10.55 seconds.
In the first round, McPherson had run 10.25 seconds (1.3m/s), Campbell 10.40 seconds (-0.4m/s) and Williams 10.44 seconds.
Giano Roberts was third in the 110m hurdles in 13.71 seconds (-0.9m/s) behind Brazil’s Eduardo Rodrigues’ 13.48 seconds and Cuba’s Roger Iribarne’s 13.69 seconds.
Roberts had run 13.68 seconds (0.5m/s) in the first round.
Shawn-D Thompson was fourth in the men’s long jump with 7.52m (0.0m/s).
At the Puma Fast Arms, Fast Legs meet at the Enwag-Stadion in Wetzlar, Germany, also on Saturday, Assinine Wilson won the men’s 400m hurdles with 49.68 seconds.
