Fantan Mojah prolongs Sumfest set, says 20 mins inadequate for his catalogue
“A my boss a keep the show, no boy can’t tell me bout time,” said reggae artiste Fantan Mojah as he continued his set long after his allotted 20 minutes.
Reeling out hits such as Hail the King, Hungry, Only Jah Love and a slew of others, the entertainer had the audience swaying in their seats. Clearly disgruntled by the allotted performance time, Mojah declared it impossible to perform half of the hits in his catalogue.
“A who unu a ramp wid man. Mi can perform so much hit songs inna 20 minutes? Unu gwaan wid dat. Big show like Reggae Sumfest inna Jamaica and when me go Africa and dem place deh mi get mi 2 hour, 2 1/2 hour show,” he continued.
Mojah, who brought on two up-and-coming acts during his set, said he’s an artiste who supports rising stars. One of his special guests, 12-year-old singer Emma thrilled the crowd with an original track. As she showed off her undoubtable star power, Mojah likened her to reggae star Koffee as he recalled when the then relatively unknown singer was brought up on stage by the late Cocoa Tea during his set at Rebel Salute.
“We have to support rising stars and me see da likkle girl here and she sound good, she have it. Mi decide me ago give her a chance because me remember when Cocoa Tea call out Koffee couple years ago and now she a big star,” he said.
Mojah delivered early heat on Night Two of the festival. The closing night on the Reggae Sumfest calendar will see performances from Lila Ike, Protoje, Tarus Riley and international RnB superstar, Toni Braxton.
