Rideallday dominates the Bigman In Town Trophy feature
IN a display of speed and power Rideallday — a three-year-old, American-bred, grey-roan colt — outclassed the competition to claim victory in the $1.25-million Bigman In Town Trophy, the main attraction on Saturday’s 10-race card.
Trained by Philip Feanny and ridden by Ian Spence, Rideallday won the one-mile (1,600m) Overnight Allowance contest by eight and a quarter lengths.
Spence settled Rideallday in third place behind Mamma Mia (Eric Haughton) and Geolithic (Oneil Mullings). As they entered the half-mile turn Rideallday made his move, slipping into second position before surging past Mamma Mia to take the lead at the top of the lane.
With lightning-fast acceleration Rideallday pulled away from the field, crossing the finishing line ahead of runner-up Girvano (Robert Halledeen) and third-place finisher Mamma Mia. The winning time was 1:40.4.
It was the second winner on the day for Spence who also won aboard General Chief for trainer Spencer Chung in the sixth race.
However, the riding honours went to champion Raddesh Roman who booted home three winners. They were Valley of Love in first race for trainer Phillip Elliott, Unruly Mo in the second race for trainer Oral Hayden, and Captain Sparrow in the seventh race for trainer Anthony Nunes.
Canada-based Teneca Wolfe notched her first win on local soil after booting home the Richard Azan-trained ButterCup in the day’s fifth race.
