Trinidad lawyer and suspect detained following discovery of body in suitcase
PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) — The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) have held an attorney and the main suspect in the death of a 22-year-old woman, whose body was found in a black suitcase and dumped in a pond in Sangre Grande, the largest town in northeastern Trinidad, last week.
Police said that the attorney and the suspect were found inside the office of the lawyer and that they believe that the suspect in the murder of the woman, identified as Candace Honore who had been reported missing since July 1, had been at the premises since last Thursday when Honore’s body was found.
Honore, of the neighbouring town of Valencia, was last seen leaving her workplace and calls to her phone went straight to voicemail.
The police said the lawyer could be charged with harbouring a fugitive.
Initial police reports indicated that the suspect had visited the lawyer’s office last Thursday seeking representation and was quoted a fee, which the suspect could not pay in full at the time.
Police said the lawyer told the suspect that his family or friends could bring the remainder of the money, and once paid, the lawyer would accompany the suspect to the police station to surrender himself.
However, police received information on Sunday that the suspect was at the attorney’s office. Upon arriving at the location, officers found and apprehended the suspect.
