Alana Reid, Odaine McPherson seek back-to-back 100m wins
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Fresh from their wins in Portugal on Saturday, Alana Reid and Odaine McPherson will be seeking back-to-back wins when they contest the women’s and men’s 100m, respectively, at Tuesday’s Folksam Grand Prix, Goteborg, Sweden, a World Athletics Continental Tour-Bronze event.
Both Reid and McPherson have been given first-round byes in their events and will start their competition in the semi-finals and, based on form and season best times, are favoured to win their events.
Reid, the World Under-20 Championships double gold medallist and Olympic Games relay finalist, ran 11.29 seconds to win her event at the Meeting Maia Cidade do Desporto at Estadio Jose Vieira de Carvalho in Portugal over the weekend.
McPherson is expected to face tough challenges from several runners including Sweden’s Henrik Larrson, Cheswill Johnson of South Africa, Udodi Onwuzurike of Nigeria, and Abdullah Abkar Mohammed of Saudi Arabia.
Also Tuesday, many-times national champion Danniel Thomas-Dodd, who earned a podium place at the Meeting de Madrid at Estadio Vallehermoso in Spain on Saturday, will contest the women’s shot put.
She will go up against Germany’s Katharina Maisch and Sweden’s Fanny Roos, both of whom have thrown over 19.00m this season.
Shawn-D Thompson is down to contest the men’s long jump, where he will take on Sweden’s Thobias Montler and Johnson of South Africa, who will be doing double duty.
