Brazilian reporter steps on missing girl’s body while giving live report
BACABAL, Brazil — In a chilling moment that was captured on camera, a Brazilian journalist stumbled upon the body of a missing 13-year-old girl at the bottom of the Mearim River in Bacabal, northeastern Brazil while he was reporting on her disappearance.
The horrifying incident unfolded as Lenildo Frazão was giving a live report and demonstration of the depth of the river, highlighting the river’s current, which had complicated search efforts.
Deep in the chest-high water, Frazão was mid-report when he suddenly jumped after seeming to step on something below the surface.
“I found something here at the bottom of the water,” a Latin Times report quoted the reporter as saying on camera after spitting out water. Speaking to someone off camera, he reportedly added, “No, it was soft… could it be her?”
Frazão then alerted the authorities, who later confirmed the body was Raíssa, who had been missing for days and was reportedly last seen near the river along with her friends.
Her death was determined to be accidental, according to Latin Times.
