Cerine Rage bats for more support for victims of domestic abuse
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Recording artiste Cerine Rage is a survivor of domestic abuse. She recently released the song Beater Man, which she hopes will inspire others who have been through similar situations.
“I’ve been through trauma, and a lot of drama and not having the ability to speak up for myself. However, I have gained the confidence and gotten the support that I needed, and now I am able to share my story,” the Springfield district, St Thomas resident told Observer Online on Thursday.
The dancehall artiste is calling on the relevant agencies to provide more support for victims of domestic abuse and violence against women.
“I am using my platform to advocate for battered women because I want to be that voice for women who often feel helpless while enduring abusive situations,” Cerine Rage disclosed.
She added, “I see myself as the voice for the voiceless. I want to be an agent of change as it relates to domestic violence because di man dem a kill off too much a we and it nuh mek nuh sense we continue to choose to be victims. As women, we have to stand together and say no to domestic abuse. Even if we are not directly affected by domestic abuse, it is a real issue in our society today and one that must be approached with urgency.”
Beater Man, produced by G Productions, denounces domestic violence while reminding women of their God-given strength.
“Beater Man is a statement, not just a song. Abuse comes in many forms, but culturally, we often only denounce physical and sexual abuse, but emotional abuse and other forms of abuse are just as bad. This song is to remind women that being independent and strong makes it easier to walk away from abusive situations,” Cerine Rage reasoned.
Cerine Rage’s previous releases include Mad House and Butterfly. She has worked with producers including DJ Sunshine, DJ Frass and the late Arif Cooper, among others.
