ST JOHN’S, Antigua (CMC) — Cricket West Indies (CWI) has extended heartfelt congratulations to legendary former captain Sir Clive Lloyd after Lancashire County Cricket Club immortalised his legacy by naming a stand in his honour at Old Trafford in Manchester, England.

The tribute was unveiled on Wednesday ahead of the fourth Test between England and India, with the newly renamed stand also celebrating Sir Clive’s former Lancashire and international teammate, Indian wicketkeeping great Farokh Engineer.

The upper tier of the B Stand, adjacent to the media centre, will now carry Lloyd’s name, while Engineer’s adorns the lower tier.

CWI Chief Executive Officer Chris Dehring hailed the honour, saying, “Sir Clive Lloyd embodies the pinnacle of West Indies cricket, excellence, leadership, and an unrelenting pursuit of greatness. His contributions at Lancashire and on the world stage have inspired countless Caribbean cricketers and remain a guiding light for the next generation.”

Sir Clive’s storied career saw him captain the West Indies to back-to-back World Cup triumphs in 1975 and 1979, cementing his status as one of the game’s greatest leaders. Across 110 Tests and 87 One-Day Internationals, he left an indelible mark on international cricket.

His 20-year tenure at Lancashire, beginning in 1968, was equally illustrious. A linchpin of the club’s golden era, Lloyd amassed 12,764 runs in 219 first-class matches, including 30 centuries, and spearheaded three consecutive Gillette Cup victories (1970-72).

This recognition follows last month’s 50th-anniversary celebrations in Barbados, where CWI honoured the trailblazing 1975 World Cup-winning squad.
