Saudi Arabia’s sleeping prince passes after decades in coma
SAUDI ARABIA, Dubai — Saudi Arabia’s Prince Al Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, who spent two decades in a coma following a London car crash, has died, according to media reports.
The prince, who was the son of Prince Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, a Saudi royal and nephew to billionaire Prince Al Waleed bin Talal, was studying in London when he was involved in a 2005 car wreck that left him with severe brain and internal injuries.
He was only 15 when the incident happened.
According to Gulf News, the prince never regained consciousness, but was kept on life support due to his father’s staunch belief that he would recover. His family periodically shared updates of his condition via social media. He was later dubbed the ‘Sleeping Prince’.
The show of devotion garnered worldwide sympathy and prayers, and his hospital room was regularly visited by those offering the same.
At the time of his death, he was 36 years old.
