Los Perfectos faces Frazsiers Whip in semi-final without head coach
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Los Perfectos will enter the first leg of the Jamaica Women’s Premier League semi-final against Frazsiers Whip without the services of head coach Maurice Duncan, who resigned earlier this week.
The matchup is scheduled for 4:00 pm at Constant Spring field. Duncan confirmed to the Jamaica Observer that he stepped down last Monday, but declined to provide details surrounding his departure.
With Duncan’s exit, assistant coach Ricky Renix now shoulders the task of preparing Los Perfectos to challenge the high-flying defending champions.
“Frazsiers is a quality team, no doubt about it. They’ve been consistent and have earned their reputation. But at LASPI, we thrive in situations like this. We respect the challenge, but we don’t fear it,” Renix told the Observer.
He added, “Our focus is on sticking to our game plan, staying compact, disciplined, and exploiting the spaces we know we can create. We believe in our squad, in our preparation, and in our chemistry.”
Los Perfectos have struggled against Frazsiers Whip this season, suffering heavy defeats in both encounters – 1-7 and 0-2. They advanced to the semi-finals by finishing fourth in the standings with 40 points, recording 13 wins, one draw, and six losses.
Frazsiers Whip have been dominant all season, scoring 133 goals in 20 games at an average of over six goals per match. Despite his team’s superiority throughout the competition, Frazsiers Whip head coach Courtney Dowdie remains cautious.
“The game is gonna be a really, really tough game. Our last encounter ended 2-0 in our favour, so we know they’ll be coming strong. We’re doing everything we can to prepare for it,” said Dowdie.
“Being unbeaten and reaching the semi-finals doesn’t guarantee us anything, but it shows we’ve done the work to get here,” he added. He stressed the importance of remaining focus for the last leg.
“These two games are do-or-die moments. We have to come out on top to reach the finals. It’s going to be tough, but if we execute what we’ve been working on in training, I believe it will be an excellent game”.
“But I can definitely tell you, Los Perfectos will come at us. It’s up to us now to continue playing quality football and do our best to come out on top over both legs,” Dowdie concluded.
