We got a song
Reggae, Afro roots royalty Cedella Marley, Rocky Dawuni collab on new track
Ghanaian four-time Grammy nominee Rocky Dawuni and Cedella Marley, three-time Grammy winner, have brought their talents together on I Got A Song released worldwide on July 18, 2025 via AQUARIAN Records and distributed by Tuff Gong International.
The track is a love song grounded in the very essence of humanity. It is inspired by the Australian Aboriginal concept of “songlines” or “dreaming tracks” that Rocky discovered during his visits with Aboriginal communities on a recent tour to Australia.
These “songlines” flow through generations, serving as crucial connections between individuals and their ancestral lands.
“Music is the heartbeat of global connection,” said Rocky Dawuni. “This song, and having the opportunity to collaborate with Cedella, honours that spirit while invoking a call for harmony, identity, and purpose through its natural reverence to the joy of love.”
Marley added: “I Got a Song reminds us of the power we each carry within our voices and cultures. It’s a bridge between past and future, between continents and communities, and we are so excited for the world to hear it.”
Recorded at the beautiful Hen House Studios in Venice, California, I Got A Song features an impressive line-up of world-class musicians: Santa Davis on drums, John McKnight on bass and guitar, AND Anthony Brewster on keyboards.
It was engineered by Harlan Steinberger and mixed by Bob Riddim, who also mixed Rocky Dawuni’s Grammy-nominated Neva Bow Down.”
Cedella’s vocals were recorded at Studio C in Miami with Fareed Salamah serving as engineer.
Echoing the philosophy and spiritually that bridges Africa to the Diaspora, I Got A Song is refered to as a timeless collaborative anthem of unity, interconnection, and the world at large.
