Arnett Gardens beat Dublanc 4-0 to start CFU Club Shield defence
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Arnett Gardens made a strong start to their Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Club Shield title defence with a commanding 4-0 win over Dublanc FC of Dominica on Sunday at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Trinidad and Tobago.
Shai Smith scored a brace for Arnett Gardens who got off to a fast start with three goals in the first 16 minutes but had to wait until time added at the end of the second half to get the fourth goal.
Giovanni Taylor got the Jamaican club off to a fast start when he scored in the ninth minute, punishing a slow Dublanc FC defence with a shot from the top of the 18-yard box that beat goalkeeper Jerome Burkard.
Smith then scored two quick goals, walking in the first in the 12th minute after a mix-up in the defence before poor organisation gifted him a second in the 16th minute.
Dublanc FC were forced to make an early substitution when Burkard was stretchered off the field after a collision in the box and was replaced by Jaheem Cuffy.
Despite dominating the possession, Arnett Gardens had to wait until two minutes into time added when substitute Chantomoi Taylor fired in the fourth goal of the game.
