Frazsiers ‘Whip’ Los Perfectos 5-0 in JWPL semi-final
Frazsiers Whip put one foot into the final of the Jamaica Women’s Premier League with a 5-0 whipping of Los Perfectos in their first-leg action at the Constant Spring Sports Complex in St Andrew on Saturday.
As she has done all season, national striker Davia Richards was the star, scoring in the 10th and 27th minutes, taking her tally for the season to 42 goals from 21 games.
Shaneil Buckley, in the second minute of first half stoppage time, Natoya Atkinson (68th), and substitute Ricquanna Richards in the 85th completed the rout.
Winning Coach Courtney Dowdie says based on their last game against Los Perfectos, which was relatively close, they knew what to do this time around.
“The last game with them ended 2-0 in our favour,” he says. “So the plan was to see how best we could stretch them a little bit.
“When we played them down in Manchester, I realised that they blocked the middle a whole lot. So the plan was to get our best players out wide and I think we did that and we played really well. When they started to chase, it was a little bit hard for them, and they were tired in the space of about 50 minutes.”
Los Perfectos were always behind the eight ball, losing their Head Coach Maurice Duncan days before the game, and top player Andrene Smith, who signed for Serbian club ZFK Spartak Subotica.
Assistant Coach Ricky Fenix was philosophical and remained hopeful that they could create a miracle for the second leg.
“It’s not the result that we wanted, but knowing that, we have a second leg,” he says. “Things do happen in football, and we had a lot of injuries and luck wasn’t on our side, and we just have to come again.”
The return leg will be on Saturday, but Frazsiers Whip must be looking towards the final, set for the following week.
The defending champions got things rolling early as Richards opened the scoring with an overhead kick after goalkeeper Brihana Staple mishandled a cross and the ball sat up beautifully for her.
Richards then returned for her second, latching on to a cross and side-footing home from close range.
The wily Buckley put the game to bed, combining well before firing home a low drive before Atkinson, the sister of national player Dwayne Atkinson, drilled home from a melee.
Richards, who came on in the 84th minute, made her coach look like a genius, latching on to a through ball and rifling home from just inside the box, putting the icing on the cake.
