Gov’t Senate caucus pays tribute to Don Wehby, ‘one of Jamaica’s finest sons’
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Government Senate caucus has joined the outpouring of tributes following the death of distinguished corporate leader and former legislator Don Wehby.
Wehby passed away at the Tony Thwaites Wing of the University Hospital of the West Indies on Saturday night. He was 62.

Commenting on the passing of the longtime chief executive officer of GraceKennedy Limited, Senate President Tom Tavares Finson said, “Don’s passing has left us with a tremendous sense of loss. It was public knowledge that he was ailing but we had hoped for the best.”
He continued, “Don’s contribution to debates in the Senate were always impactful, sober and incisive. Above all, he was a decent human being who operated with integrity, compassion and a sincere commitment to the advancement of Jamaica.”
Tavares Finson said his thoughts and prayers are with Wehby’s family, friends and colleagues at this time of great loss.
Leader of Government Business in the Upper House of Parliament, Kamina Johnson Smith, also paid tribute to Wehby whose life, she said, was characterised by decency, principle, dedication, and a deep and distinguished commitment to nation-building.

“I commiserate with Don’s family, in particular his wife, Hillary and children, Nicholas, Stephanie and Abigail. We are grateful to them for sharing Don, not just with us in Parliament but the wider Jamaica. Don Wehby’s contribution to national life spanned several sectors, including politics, corporate Jamaica, the diaspora, sports, and philanthropy. He was absolutely committed to each and every one, and his impact is indelible,” Johnson Smith said.
“He will no doubt inspire generations to come. Don is one of Jamaica’s finest sons,” she added.
