Dr Richard Cross publishes ‘Unidentified Genius’, launches project IMPACT
KINGSTON, Jamaica— Dr Richard Cross, author, educator and founder of Black Male Impact has published another book aimed at empowering youths, titled Unidentified Genius.
The American-based, Jamaican author who will also be in Jamaica this week to visit several schools as he launches ‘Project IMPACT’, explained that he wanted to highlight the potential in each reader.
“We all think of a ‘genius’ on the intellectual side, but, your talents that you nurture and that you utilise also make you a genius,” Dr Cross explained.
“I knew, from a long time, that there was always something special about me. Earlier in my life, I didn’t believe that I was smart… I realised that it was my ability to discipline myself that was needed to activate what was already within. When the idea to write this book came to me from as far back as 2017 when a book was given to me titled Genius Amongst Us, it explained that we are all geniuses in our own right but we sometimes compare ourselves to others and overlook our potential…”
This book speaks directly to those who feel invisible in systems not designed for their rise, particularly young Black men and anyone who has struggled to see their own value. Through practical insight, personal storytelling, and unapologetic empowerment, Unidentified Genius becomes a tool for transformation—lighting a path for those ready to not just survive, but lead, influence, and thrive.
Meanwhile, Project IMPACT is an innovative youth publishing and empowerment initiative under The Voices of Impact movement. It is designed to amplify the voices of Black male high school students by equipping them to share their stories, aspirations, and reflections on their potential as agents of positive change. This programme fosters confidence, literacy, identity development, and leadership while building a visible legacy for future generations.
This movement will get underway this week with visits to some secondary schools in the island.
“I will be talking to some students at these schools, but it will expand into a greater initiative to help our Black males tell their stories, and help them to see why they should become the leaders among their peers,” Dr Cross explained.
Readers can also anticipate the publication of The Voices of Impact Vol 2 at the end of the month.
