CLARENDON, Jamaica—The Glenmuir High School football team copped the trophy at the inaugural Clarendon Elite Cup on Sunday.

“The inaugural staging of the Clarendon Elite Cup achieved an unexpected and resounding level of success, far exceeding initial projections. The tournament was exceptionally well-organised, supported by strong community involvement and an impressive turnout of spectators—significantly more than anticipated,” Baker told the Jamaica Observer.
Earlier on Sunday, Denbigh High School took the third place spot as they defeated Munro College 2-1.
Other competing schools included: Manchester High, Central High, Tivoli High, and Belair High.

Meanwhile, Baker lauded the presence of notable guests within the sporting arena who showed their support at Sunday’s grand finale.
“A defining highlight of the event was the remarkable sportsmanship demonstrated by all participating teams, coupled with high-level support from key figures in Jamaican football. Distinguished guests included the president of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) and the president of the Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA), whose presence added both prestige and inspiration to the competition,” he said.
The halftime show featured performances by dancehall artistes Merkz and Melodii.
Baker and his team are looking to expand the competition going forward.
“Looking ahead, organisers plan to expand the tournament to include 16 teams, broadening its reach across the island. Future stagings will also focus on increasing community engagement and enhancing the spectator experience, ensuring that the Clarendon Elite Cup continues to grow in both quality and national significance,” the founder continued.
