Ackeem Blake takes win in Berlin
Ackeem Blake returned to winning ways after he won the men’s 100m at Sunday’s ISTAF Berlin — a World Athletics Continental Tour Silver meet that was held at Olympiastadion, running 10.05 seconds (0.0m/s).
He was the only Jamaican winner at the highly acclaimed meet as Olympic champion Hansle Parchment was second in the 110m hurdles and Danniel Thomas-Dodd retained her third-place finish in the women’s shot put from last year.
Blake’s most recent win came in the first round of last month’s National Senior Championships and after placing fifth at the PreFontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon, on July 5 and fourth at the London Diamond League, he would have welcomed Sunday’s victory as he continues his preparation for the World Athletics Championships in September.
Germany’s Owen Ansha was second in 10.18 seconds and Nigeria’s Udodi Onwuzurike finished third in 10.22 seconds.
Parchment equalled his season’s best, 13.26 seconds (0.6m/s), for the runner-up spot in the 110m hurdles, beaten by Japan’s Tatsuki Abe, who ran 13.23 seconds, while Oumar Abakar set a Qatari national record with 13.37 seconds in placing third.
Lafranz Campbell was eighth in 13.59 seconds.
