Constable arrested in illegal firearms trafficking operation
ST ANDREW, Jamaica — A member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) was arrested in connection with the seizure of two firearms during an intelligence-driven operation conducted Tuesday in Florence Hill, St Andrew.
The Police High Command said the lawman, only identified as a constable, was arrested after the firearms were seized during a coordinated raid on a premises in the area. It said the operation, which forms part of a wider investigation into illicit firearms trafficking, was triggered by credible intelligence suggesting that the member was involved in the illegal vending of firearms.
“This arrest represents a significant development in the JCF’s ongoing offensive against the illegal gun trade. It is an effort that remains one of our highest strategic priorities in the fight against crime and violence in Jamaica,” the JCF said.
“Members of the JCF are entrusted with extraordinary powers and public confidence. Any breach of that trust, especially involving criminal conduct, will be met with swift and uncompromising consequences. There is no place in this organisation for individuals who seek to use their position to subvert the law,” it added.
The operation is ongoing.
