MoBay’s mayor commends Digicel for its role in urban transformation
CHAIRMAN of the St James Municipal Corporation Mayor of Montego Bay Richard Vernon has applauded telecommunication giant Digicel for its continued investment in western Jamaica.
“Digicel’s strategic investment strengthens Montego Bay’s push towards urban preservation by enhancing smart infrastructure, unlocking local economic opportunities, and bridging digital divides,” said Vernon during a Digicel Jamaica ‘Remix D’Summa’ road show in Sam Sharpe Square, Montego Bay, on Friday.
“This transformation propels our city into a bold era of domestic diversification and global competitiveness,” added Vernon at the event which saw people from across St James and neighbouring parishes filling the square.
Among the Digicel Jamaica executives sharing the moment were Joni McCalla, head of sales, and Jodi-Ann Reid Simpson, consumer marketing manager, who engaged the residents as they underscored the company’s commitment to building stronger community relationships.
“Our goal is always to show up in real ways, to meet our customers where they are, not just as a business, but as a member of the community,” said McCalla.
“Today is about connection — about reminding people that we’re here, listening, and building with them,” added McCalla.
Digicel is now expanding and upgrading its service across western Jamaica, including in Catherine Hall, Granville, Retirement, Fairfield Estate, The Estuary, and Montego West Village and for Reid Simpson, “being on the ground gives us a real sense of what matters most to our customers. It’s about more than devices, it’s about trust, reliability, and showing up when it counts.”
