Veteran trainer tastes victory with Whisky at Caymanas Park
Trainer Dennis Lee finally tasted victory on Saturday, July 26, 2025, when his charge Whisky galloped to an impressive win in the sixth race at Caymanas Park. Whisky, a six-year-old bay gelding by Savoy Stomp out of Raise Your Voice, was claimed by Lee just days earlier and made a winning debut under his care.
Ridden by claiming apprentice Demar Williams, Whisky wasted no time seizing the lead once the gates flew open in the 5 ½ furlong event. Maintaining a strong pace throughout, Whisky surged home four lengths clear of his rivals, crossing the finish line in a respectable time of 1:09.2.
The competition was stiff, but Whisky proved to be in top form, outperforming Justin Biden, who finished second with jockey Shane Ellis, and Fearless Attack, who came in third with Phillip Parchment aboard.
This win marked Whisky’s fifth career victory from 38 starts and pushed his earnings past the $3.5-million mark. Whisky’s impressive performance was a testament to his talent and potential, and it’s exciting to see what the future holds for this seasoned campaigner under the veteran Lee’s care.
For Lee, who had eased back from active training in recent years, this win was a welcome respite, especially considering he had only sent three horses to post this season. Whisky’s victory was a much-needed boost to Lee’s stable, and it’s likely to generate buzz in the racing community.
